Catching up
Kathleen woke me up a few hours after I got back to the room from last nights debacle . Surprisingly I was not not hung over but I was not in the mood to roll off my rock , yes my bed is a rock . Don’t get me started . Think I got 4 hours sleep or something but its time to head out to watch my fourth game here which is Australia vs Tunisia and I am rooting for our commonwealth brothers from Australia . I have been there twice now and absolutely love my mates there and its such a fantastic country .
As soon as we got on the metro we found Tunisian fans singing about marijuana ? I can dig that hahaha and there were a lot of Tunisian supporters . Much more then the Aussies . The stadium for todays match is Al Janoub which is not as far as last night’s but still not too close . The whole ride was filled with Tunisian chants and the atmosphere was a lot of fun even though I was beat down from the night before .
When we arrived we met up with Patrick and Todd in the shade as the sun was beating down on us . Another Canadian saw us and joined us there for a pre match huddle then we headed into the game . The Aussies were outnumbered big time !!! The whole stadium was red but we still cheered on Australia and they did not let us down . I was on a personal streak of 2 games without a goal and in three matches I saw only one goal . Yup that sucks !
We saw a lot of great costumes and some Tunisians arguing amongst each other . They seemed more hostile with each other then towards the Australians which was interesting from a bystanders point of view . Thankfully the Aussies scored and we were hoping for more but that was not going to happen . Concessions were much more organized here and the game was fun but I was hoping for that second goal so the Tunisians would clear out and it would make transit easier . The game ended 1-0 for Australia which was somewhat of an upset .
Finally got to meet another Winnipegger named Doug that is staying in Rawdat Al Jahhaniya fan village also and we rode the transit together which wasn’t as bad as the night before but the transit flew by as we gabbed about Canada Soccer . On the ride we met some interesting folks also as I’ve said everyone is so friendly , for the most part . Philip was one of them , he is an Australian who supports the Sydney Ice Dogs in the AIHL and we talked about my buddy Justin Harrison who is a goalie for the Sydney Bears . Philip promised he will give him the gears next season when they have their rivalry matches hahaha 🤪
When we got to the mall Doug carried on and we went to have some traditional food but the service was non existent as the staff at this one establishment were more interested in watching the Saudi Arabia game so we left and went to the Outback which happens to be an Australian restaurant . The steaks there are delicious and we had a nice feast before heading to our room to chill .
After the last 30 some odd hours we decided to stay local as we have a big screen in the village here to watch games . No tv in our rooms so we went to watch the Argentina vs Mexico match which was a great game and I tried so hard to get tickets to that but it is the most sought after ticket . The fan village screen had every seat filled and we enjoyed a relaxing night before calling it a day . Argentina won that game 2-0 and yes Messi did score .
