Short Story
Time to enjoy what little chance I have of enjoying a pint . Going to Qatar tomorrow to watch the World Cup and it doesn’t sound like beer is offered too openly . I was actually still buzzing off the experience I had playing hockey and meeting some of the Oman hockey community here .
When I woke up in the morning I was flooded with requests for national team jerseys and people trying to find out about the rink and some other things . Guessing my photos actually did open the idea of there being ice here to play hockey and that’s a good thing . It is a hobby of mine and I do add the flags to my collection like a notch on the bed post but all in all the main goal is to get some attention for the locals and hopefully help get some tournaments or ways to make money like selling jerseys .
So I hit the gym and went for a jog before rewarding myself with some pool side pints and a dip in the beautiful pool here at the IHG Intercontinental. We met a fellow named Ben Bolz who is a journalist from Hamburg and was a really nice guy . For some reason I get along with Germans ;) scheiss 😝 he was about to take off on an excursion and we mentioned that we needed to do laundry so we went with him to the laundry service and found out we didn’t have appropriate time to get ours done . Unfortunately he had to leave the hotel so we exchanged info and will try to stay in touch .
Kathleen had booked us a table at the W Hotel next door to watch the England Iran match on their big screen outdoors so we went over there and of course sitting at our table was a pair of German sunglasses as if to tell us Ben was there in spirit . He was a really nice fella ! The game itself was one sided but we enjoyed the atmosphere and had a few beers and the sloppiest nachos ever , it was like the were wet or something ? Not crispy at all …. Two thumbs down but we are then anyways as they were not cheap .
After the match we hit the beach path and walked over to KFC for some fine dining . No $75 steaks tonight and we really realized we could have made this trip much cheaper if we didn’t opt for the convenience of eating on the hotels property . And when I say cheaper I mean way way cheaper ! You live and you learn but all in all I can’t complain as I’m enjoying myself . What better way to end the night then gobbling a greasy bucket of chicken …. Ok maybe playing hockey would be better !
